The ship for the Philippines has departed Tokyo Port.*

The ship loaded with 83 wheelchairs for Jesus V. Del Rosario Foundation, our partner in the Philippines, departed Tokyo port at 18:00 on April 6.

Wheelchairs (52), buggy-types (9), standing trainers (6), sitting-aid devices (13), stretchers (3), etc. are loaded. They are to arrive at the port of Manila, Philippines, around April 22.

JVR Foundation was unable to receive the wheelchairs for the time being because of the corona disaster and the lack of means to deliver them to the children. However, we decided to ship the wheelchairs to the Philippines because we were told that the corona crisis had finally subsided and that they would be able to receive the wheelchairs.

This brings the total number of wheelchairs sent to the Philippines to 1,024. Click here to see the graph of donation results.

 Article on wheelchairs to Ukraine.*

Wheelchair donation to Ukraine, realized from the enthusiastic request by Mr. and Mrs. Kimura, journalists living in London, was reported on several newspapers.

The desire to support those suffering from the ravages of war led to three organizations providing wheelchairs: “Wheelchairs of Hope,” “Go! Fly! Wheelchairs,” and our NGO.

To the right is an article published by the Asahi Shimbun. (Click to enlarge.)

In an interview with a reporter, President Morita said, “To me, the children in developing countries we’ve supported and the injured children in Ukraine overlap. It’s been almost a year since the Russian invasion to Ukraine began, but I think Japanese people still have much interest in it.”

Our goal is to send a total of 500 wheelchairs to Ukraine in this all-Japan project. We would like to continue to provide wheelchairs upon request.

Wheelchairs for Ukraine departed Tokyo port.*

This is the second time for us to send wheelchairs to Ukraine. It was started from an enthusiastic request by Mr. and Mrs. Kimura, Japanese journalists living in London. The desire to help those suffering from the ravages of war has led to this project, a collaboration between three organizations that donate wheelchairs, a shipping company, and a transportation company. (Click here for details)

The three donating organizations are “Wheelchairs of Hope,” “Go! Fly! Wheelchairs” and our NGO. Each group provided wheelchairs as below.
–110 wheelchairs mainly for grown-ups (Wheelchairs of Hope)
–30 wheelchairs mainly for grown-ups (Go! Fly! Wheelchairs)
–10 wheelchairs for children (Our NGO)
150 units in total

The ship loaded with the above wheelchairs left Tokyo port at 18:00 on Monday, February 6, scheduled to arrive at Port of Gdynia, Poland, around March 14, by way of Hamburg, Germany. They are to be delivered to Future for Ukraine Foundation (FFU) and provided for Ukrainians evacuating in Poland or still living in Ukraine.

We would like to continue to offer children’s wheelchairs to Ukraine at the opportunity in the future.

This brings the total number of wheelchairs sent to Ukraine to 22. The graph of donation results is from here.

   Wheelchairs for Ukraine.

Our first wheelchairs for Ukraine were 12 units through a Ukranian resident in Japan(detail from here), Tokar Lesya. Though they left Tokyo port in October 2022, we have not yet received any information about the recipient children. It would be hard to deliver those wheelchairs to children, still more to contact us, in wartime.

This time we got an enthusiastic request to provide wheelchairs from Journalists living in London, Mr. and Mrs. Kimura. The desire to support those suffering from the war led to a project in which three organizations donating wheelchairs, a shipping company, and a transportation company cooperated with each other. The organizations are “Wheelchairs of Hope,” “Go! Fly! Wheelchairs,” and our NGO. We have worked together in sending wheelchairs before, and this time Mr. Tani, representative of Wheelchairs of Hope, took trouble over the work.

The wheelchairs which three organizations prepared were as follows.
Wheelchairs of Hope —110 wheelchairs mainly for grown-ups
Go! Fly! Wheelchairs —  30 wheelchairs mainly for grown-ups
Our NGO —  10 wheelchairs for children
     150 units in total

Although the number of units from our NGO was small, only 10 units were ready due to the time required to refurbish them.

The recipient is Future for Ukraine (FFU), humanitarian relief foundation for Ukrainians in Poland. The wheelchairs are to be delivered to hospitals and rehabilitation centers in the west of Ukraine in March.

Loading was done at Sankyo-Ohi sales office during the morning of January 26. The ship is scheduled to leave Tokyo port on February 7, and arrive in Poland around March 14.

We got strong support of ‘free of charge’ from Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. and SANKYO Co., Ltd. for this project. Also, seven media outlets gathered for the loading of the wheelchairs.

We pray that the wheelchairs will reach people and children in need as soon as possible.
