On December 5, we had a mini-meeting with Sagami Women’s University group. There were also a new volunteer, Ms. Wada, and Mr. Miyata of Wakuwaku Kobo Hanno.
Our NGO’s activity is to get wheelchairs which are not used anymore, refurbish and make them in good shape again, and send them to overseas children who need them. The condition of the wheelchairs we receive is of great variety; some are as good as new ones so we could send them without cleaning, some are those which have been used for a long time and need complete cleaning and refurbishing before sent to needy children abroad, and some have been left outdoors and quite hard to clean. Once in a while we need to exchange some tires, too. Our aim is to make them as good as new ones, but it’s not such an easy task.
So, we tried removing wheels and casters before cleaning, which would make cleaning work easy and perfect as well. It did take much more time than usual, but the results were quite satisfying. We’d like to try different ways like this to meet our goal, making used wheelchairs as good as new ones.
In this way, we’ve finished cleaning three wheelchairs and packing two wheelchairs.
Thank you everyone for joining our activity today.
